Leather Mouthpiece
Leather bits are known for becoming softer when exposed to moisture, such as the saliva in the horse’s mouth. This, combined with the natural taste of the leather, makes them particularly suitable for horses with sensitive mouths. Trust leather bits feature a flexible nylon core that adapts to the horse’s mouth, offering a softer feel compared to standard leather bits with a metal core. Regular lubrication with leather butter helps prevent drying, keeping the leather supple and maintaining comfort for the horse.
Straight Mouthpiece
A straight mouthpiece is a single-piece bit that applies pressure to the tongue, bars, and lips. The shape and thickness of the mouthpiece influence how and where this pressure is distributed within the horse’s mouth.
- A straight mouthpiece with a tongue port applies more pressure to the bars while allowing the tongue greater freedom.
Generally, the straighter and thicker the mouthpiece, the more pressure it places on the tongue.
Loose Ring
Loose ring bits allow for more freedom of movement within the horse’s mouth. This added flexibility can enhance comfort, especially for horses that prefer a bit with more give. However, the increased mobility means the bit is less stable, which can lead to a slight delay in the horse’s response to the rider’s aids. As the rings move slightly within the mouth, there may be a brief gap between the rider’s hand and the horse’s reaction. While this movement can provide a more forgiving and less restrictive feel, it may not offer the same immediate and direct communication that a more stable design, such as an eggbutt bit, provides.
Why Proper Sizing Matters
Choosing the correct bit size is essential for your horse’s comfort and performance. A bit that is too small can create painful pressure points and damage the mouth, while a bit that is too large may slide through the horse's mouth, causing discomfort and pinching the corners, potentially leading to wounds. Always ensure the bit fits snugly without being restrictive to keep your horse comfortable and responsive. What If My Horse Bites or Damages the Bit?
TRUST Equestrian guarantees the quality of its products against defects in material and workmanship. However, they do not provide coverage for damage caused by chewing on Inno Sense mouthpieces. The bit should rest on the horse’s jawline, avoiding contact with teeth or molars. Horses with dental issues may damage the bit by biting or lifting it with their tongue, potentially causing damage to the flexible material.
TRUST Inno Sense flexi bits are made from FDA-approved, non-toxic materials free from plasticizers. However, bits with bite marks or damage caused by misuse are not eligible for reimbursement
