Pony Bits
The TRUST Pony collection features anatomically shaped bits, carefully designed to provide an optimal fit for smaller pony mouths. Developed in collaboration with pony riders, this series includes refined details such as thinner mouthpieces and smaller cheekpieces, ensuring better comfort and communication.
Available in 9.5 cm, 10.5 cm, and 11.5 cm, these bits offer a tailored solution for ponies that require a more precise fit without compromising performance.
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are crafted from durable steel and feature a distinctive blue color. This material is designed to encourage natural salivation, enhancing your horse's comfort and promoting better acceptance of the bit.
Locked
Locked bits function similarly to single-jointed bits but have a unique mechanism that limits movement under rein pressure. When minimal rein pressure is applied, the bit acts like a single-jointed bit, but with increased pressure, it locks into a straight bit, offering more control. Locked bits are designed for horses that tend to pull through the hand and are not recommended for inexperienced riders.
Full Cheek
The side pieces of a full cheek bit feature two vertical bars that prevent the bit from being pulled through the horse’s mouth. These bars also apply gentle pressure to the horse's cheeks, improving steering and enhancing maneuverability. A full cheek bit is stable and stays quiet in the horse’s mouth, making it an excellent choice for training young or inexperienced horses. The effect of the bit—whether softer or sharper—depends on the type of mouthpiece, its thickness, and the material used.
Understanding Color Changes
Sweet Iron bits naturally change color over time as they come into contact with humidity. The vibrant blue surface will transition to a greyish-brown tone due to oxidation. This process is entirely normal and improves the bit’s functionality by creating a sweet taste that stimulates salivation and enhances acceptance.
If the bit isn’t used regularly, a thicker layer of rust may form. This is easily removed with a brush or cloth before use to maintain the bit's performance.
Why Proper Sizing Matters
Choosing the correct bit size is essential for your horse’s comfort and performance. A bit that is too small can create painful pressure points and damage the mouth, while a bit that is too large may slide through the horse's mouth, causing discomfort and pinching the corners, potentially leading to wounds. Always ensure the bit fits snugly without being restrictive to keep your horse comfortable and responsive.
